Activities

  • Reception at the NSCL 19:00 Wednesday, October 9, National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL)
A reception will be hosted by Michigan State University at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) and the new Biomedical Physical Science Building (BPS). The new BPS building is home to the Department of Physics and Astronomy and with the NSCL completes a physical science courtyard on the MSU campus. Transportation from the Kellogg Center to the NSCL and BPS will be provided.
  • Physical Review C and Physical Review Letters Drop-in 15:00–17:00 Thursday, October 10, Big Ten Room C
The Editors of Physical Review C and Physical Review Letters, cordially invite all conference attendees to join them for conversation and refreshments. Questions, suggestions, compliments, and complaints about the journals are welcome. We hope you will be able to join us.

  • Being a woman nuclear scientist—options after a PhD 17:00–18:30 Thursday, October 10, Room 103A/B
Sherry Yennello (Texas A&M University) moderates a panel discussion on the various opportunities and challenges for women in nuclear science. Panelists include Susan Seestrom (Los Alamos National Laboratory), Ruth Howes (Ball State University), Catherine Mader (Hope College), Ani Aprahamian (The University of Notre Dame), and Allena K. Opper (Ohio University).
  • Users Group Meetings Evening Thursday, October 10
Several Users Group meetings will be held after the regular sessions. At present, Jefferson Lab (JLAB/CEBAF), the National Underground Science Laboratory (NUSL), the Modular Neutron Array group (MONA), and a consortium of low energy laboratories (ANL-ATLAS, LBNL 88", ORNL-HRIBF, NSCL) will host informational meetings.

  • CEU Student Activities 13:00–17:00 Friday, October 11, Lincoln Room
A recent tradition at the Fall DNP meeting is a parallel set of activities for undergraduate students organized by Warren Rogers (Westmont College) under the Conference Experience for Undergraduates (CEU) program. The goal of the CEU program is to provide a "capstone" conference experience for undergraduate students who have conducted research in nuclear physics, by providing them the opportunity to present their research to the larger professional community and to one another. Additionally, it enables the students to converse with faculty and senior scientists from graduate institutions about graduate school opportunities. Other activities to welcome the students, to bring them in contact with researchers, and to provide information about graduate school opportunities will take place during the meeting.

  • Town Hall Meeting 17:00–18:30 Friday, October 11, Big Ten Room
As part of a continuing effort to provide timely information to the DNP membership and to provide an open forum for public comment on issues affecting the entire field, the Division will hold a Town Hall Meeting.
