The
teachers and students worked on a collaborative project
to construct two cosmic ray detectors designed by
Lawrence Berkeley Labs. The detectors, described more
fully below, consisted of twin scintillation paddles,
photomultiplier tubes and associated electronics, and
would detect incident cosmic rays. Due to the complexity
of the task and the short time-frame, the work was done
collaboratively with groups responsible for either
scintillation paddle preparation, electronics or
construction/testing of the detectors.
The detectors were then used by
different teacher/student "research groups" to
explore the kinds of cosmic ray experiments that could be
done using these Berkeley detectors. The results of these
investigations are also linked below.
