RIA Facility Workshop March 9-13, 2004 East Lansing, Michigan Dear Colleague, We are organizing a workshop to discuss all aspects of the Rare Isotope Accelerator (RIA) Facility from the ion source to the experimental areas. We plan this to be an important opportunity for the machine builders of RIA to interact with the future experimentalist of RIA to discuss needs and constraints. As such, the emphasis of the workshop will be on the interfaces of the major subsystems of RIA. The discussion at this workshop should go far in preparing the community for the conceptual design report. The workshop will be held March 9-13, 2004 on the campus of Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. The workshop will consist of a plenary session, working group sessions and a summary session. There will be four major areas organized by three conveners each: 1. Driver-LINAC Claude Lyneis (lyneis@lbl.gov) Peter Ostroumov (ostroumov@phy.anl.gov) Stan Schriber (scriber@nscl.msu.edu) 2. Target Area Georg Bollen (bollen@nscl.msu.edu) Tony Gabriel (gabriela@ornl.gov) Jerry Nolen (nolen@anl.gov) 3. Secondary Beam Delivery Jim Beene (beenejr@ornl.gov) Guy Savard (savard@phy.anl.gov) Brad Sherrill (sherrill@nscl.msu.edu) 4. Experimental Areas Ernst Rehm (rehm@phy.anl.gov) Michael Thoennessen (thoennessen@nscl.msu.edu) Alan Wuosmaa (wuosmaa@wmich.edu) There will be plenty of time for input from the community. If you would like to contribute, please contact one of the conveners. The workshop will take place in the Biological and Physical Sciences Building (BPS) on the campus of Michigan State University. It will begin with a reception on Tuesday night in the atrium of the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The plenary session begin on Wednesday morning, March 10th at 9:00am in room BPS 1410. The working group sessions will take place in lecture halls and seminar rooms in BPS and the NSCL. The summary session will be Saturday morning, March 13, and the workshop will end at noon that day. Registration is available over the web at http://meetings.nscl.msu.edu/ria2004 and the early (before 2/13/2004) registration fee is $75. After 2/13/2004 the registration fee will be $100.
