Dear Colleague,

Gregers Hansen passed away on July 20th 2005. We lost an outstanding colleague and a good friend whose gentle wisdom had an important impact on many of us.

We, his associates and his family commemorated Gregers’ professional and personal life with a one-day symposium on the advances of rare isotope research, the field of science that he shaped from early on and that he pursued with passion and personal enjoyment throughout his life. The symposium took place at MSU on Saturday November 5th, 2005. Some of Gregers’ close friends and colleagues presented their perspectives of the field, looking both back and forward in time: John Hardy, Aksel Jensen, Bjoern Jonson, Poul Lindelof, Alex Mueller, Helge Ravn, Achim Richter, Karsten Riisager, Brad Sherrill, and Jeff Tostevin.

The symposium ended that evening with a dinner at the Wharton Center, where members of Gregers’ family shared their memories with us.

We compiled a slide collection of the presentations including some photos from the event. Each participant received a CD of these proceedings. In addition, although large (>60MB) they are also available online.

The organizing committee would like to thank everybody who participated and contributed to the event.

Sincerely,

Shari Conroy, Konrad Gelbke, Michael Thoennessen, Vladimir Zelevinsky
